‘We think we’ve got it right’ – Kensell on new Norwich City fan memberships & £30 ticket cap

Ben Kensell is confident Norwich City have got their new membership scheme right – capping casual Premier League tickets at £30 in the process.
The Canaries have confirmed the remaining 1,500 seats available to City fans for home top-flight games next season will match the Premier League's price cap for visiting supporters, regardless which club Carrow Road is hosting.
With demand set to outstrip supply, City have also carried out an extensive revamp of their membership scheme for adults, junior fans and those set to following City on the road.
"We've got 22,000 season ticket holders, which we're really pleased about," said City's chief operating officer. "The loyal support that we've had is phenomenal.
"From a casual fan's perspective we've built up a real loyal fanbase that travels home and away, and we believe £30 is a fair price point. The Premier League enforced that a few years ago for away fans and we believe we should match that."
City's three memberships - adult, junior and away - have two tiers of priority: standard and premier, with the club also bidding to ensure home tickets reach Norwich City fans.
How supporters react to the changes will no doubt reflect how those changes affect their personal situation - however in terms of a fair scheme for supporters across the board, Kensell believes the club have got it right.
"We know there will be some that will look at it and say why have you changed it?" added Kensell. "We wanted to put in a system that was fair. We spent a lot of time focusing on what's right for our fanbase.
"We've consulted with fans as well, and we believe the tiered membership scheme will work if fans give it time and give it the importance and focus that it needs.
"There is a lot of detail involved with changing something that's been in place for a long time, but we wouldn't do it if we didn't think it was for the best interests of all fans at Norwich City.
"We also wanted to manage loyalty. It's really important and there are many fans that have the opportunity to do - as well as some that haven't had that opportunity.
"So it's got to be fair and we've got to make sure it's the right scheme for us. We think we've got it right - but there will always be criticism, especially when change is involved."
City's new membership scheme goes on sale at 9am today, with City's Premier League fixtures for the 2019-20 campaign revealed 24 hours later.
