City teenager Chris Martin struck six minutes from the end of extra-time on Tuesday night to book an FA Cup fifth-round trip to Premiership champions Chelsea.

The youngster's first-ever senior goal capped a night of drama in which Darren Huckerby also made another entry into Carrow Road folklore with two glorious goals - the first taking the game into extra-time, the second putting City in front.

Michael Jackson had headed Blackpool into a first-half lead and they looked to have forced a penalty shoot-out when Shaun Barker equalised in the 108th minute.

But that was counting without the intervention of Martin, whose goal brought the house down - and started the countdown to Saturday's trip to Stamford Bridge.

Martin's strike meant that City boss Peter Grant was at last able to talk about the prospect of facing the Premiership champions.

“You go there to try and win the game and I won't be any different,” said Grant. “There haven't been many shocks in the FA Cup this season and if we win it's a major shock. But I am not going there just for the party. We will go to Chelsea with a plan and hopefully we will give them problems.

“I always feel that against the top sides you have a chance and we will have a right go at them. I won't be going there with a white flag.”

Grant paid tribute to Huckerby and Martin, saying: “I know what he (Huckerby) is capable of,” he said. “He was the only one capable of producing that touch tonight.

“I am delighted for Chris Martin and everybody involved in the Academy that has produced him. He has been scoring a lot of goals for the youth and reserve teams and I just felt he had a goal in him tonight. I thought he might be able to sniff something out.”
