Norwich City left-back Harry Toffolo has broken his foot, bringing a premature finish to his loan at Doncaster Rovers.

The 22-year-old City academy product made 17 appearances for the League One side but suffered the injury in training last week and has returned to his parent club – where his contract expires in the summer.

Toffolo, one of the Canaries’ 2013 FA Youth Cup winners, was due to stay with Doncaster until January 3 but is unlikely to be fit before the end of January so his chances of returning for the second half of the season are slim.

“Harry Toffolo has gone back,” Rovers boss Darren Ferguson told the Sheffield Star. “He’ll be out for six weeks with a broken foot.

“The problem we’ve got with H is that he probably wouldn’t be fit until the end of the month in January.

“We’ve only now have Tyler Garratt as a natural left-back who is fit. We’ll look at it and do our work. But we feel that probably if it’s going to be that long then we may have to look at that. Whatever we’ll do, we make a decision.”

We spoke to Liam Hoden, from the Sheffield Star, about Toffolo’s impact at Doncaster last month, which can be read here: Canaries loanee Toffolo has become a ‘really important’ player for Doncaster
