Norwich City U23s were comfortably beaten 4-1 by league leaders West Ham at Colney on Friday evening, as the Hammers retained their unbeaten start to the Premier League 2 season.

Goals from Anthony Scully, Amadou Diallo and a brace from Nathan Kemp ensured United left Norfolk with all three points. Gassan Ahadme's effort reduced the deficit but the Canaries run without a victory extended to seven fixtures.

The only first team involvement came from left-back Philip Heise with Patrick Roberts not involved after scoring in City's 4-2 defeat to West Brom a week ago.

Ex-City U23 boss Dmitri Halajko was in charge of the young Irons, with his side running out as emphatic winners against a young City side struggling for form in the league. The emphasis is on indiviual development rather than results.

West Ham took the lead after 17 minutes, with Emmanuel Longelo's swinging cross converted by Scully, a player who was on trial at City last season. That lead was doubled after Longelo's crossing caused more havoc in the Canaries penalty area, with Kemp driving the ball past Archie Mair.

On the 43rd minute, Kemp bagged his second of the evening after some impressive work from winger Nathan Holland, who squared the ball across the area for the right-winger to score.

Ahadme's goal proved to be merely a consolation, after some poor defending from the visitors allowed City's striker to confidently finish into the top corner to get some leverage back.

City's spells of possession weren't converted into chances, with probing passages resulting in nothing. The Hammers cutting edge was pertinent as Diallo was played through before rounding Mair and placing it into an empty net to get United's fourth.

Despite chances courtesy from Rob Nizet and Ahadme in the second half, City couldn't reduce the lead created by the divisions leaders in the opening period.
