Anthony Spyrou’s time at Norwich City has come to an end, with a mutual agreement to finish the under-23 striker’s contract early.

The Essex youngster came to the fore during the 2017-18 season when he forged an understanding with strike partner Adam Idah which contributed to the under-18s reaching the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals, scoring 11 goals in 20 games for the U18s.

Ten goals in 21 games followed for the under-23s last season as the tall forward continued to progress well, leading to a first loan experience with Wrexham in the National League, making three appearances towards the end of the campaign.

A season-long switch back to the top tier of non-league followed, at Chesterfield, but five appearances as a substitute saw the loan brought to an end last month. Spireites' boss John Sheridan cited injury disruption and homesickness for the move not working out, telling the Derbyshire Times: "I brought him in because I really liked him as a player. When he is on his game he is sharp and he scores goals but I think we just have not seen the best of him."

It's believed that Spyrou's contract was due to expire at the end of the season but the Canaries have announced that deal has been "cancelled by mutual consent", with the news arriving ahead of the January transfer window opening.

The statement concluded: "Everybody at Norwich City wishes Anthony well in his future career."
