Daniel Farke needed to know Stuart Webber was on board before signing up for another tour of duty at Norwich City.

Webber's new three-year deal, announced last week, matched the length of contract extension Farke signed in March to keep both at Carrow Road for the next phase of the club's transformation.

The City head coach revealed he sought assurances from the man who originally enticed him to the Canaries in the summer of 2017, when it came to agreeing his longer term stay with the Championship title winners.

"Yes, it was important. We have a special relationship full of trust. We are both heading in the same direction with our thoughts for this club," he said. "Of course we spoke at the time I signed a new deal about this topic and he gave me the right message and it was pretty important for me.

"He was very important why I came here in the first place.

"It is a pleasure to work with him. So, yes, for me to commit in the long term to the club it was important to hear that.

"I have worked for several years in football, for a big club like Borussia Dortmund, and I have several experiences and one thing is for sure Stuart has the full package and he will lead this club to amazing success.

"The most important thing is he has committed the next three years to work for the yellow shirt."

Webber reiterated again after signing his new contract he expected Farke to one day coach in the Champions League. The club's sporting director also has ambitions to work abroad, and Farke is convinced he is destined for the top.

"We can all praise the name of the players or even the head coach but the most important thing is the key people who are responsible for the mid to long term strategy are full of quality and they are the right people," he said. "I am 100pc happy Stuart has signed. It is crucial.

"A brilliant piece of news for this club.

"Stuart is a cornerstone for our recent success and so important for this club.

"You can't stop his quality. Either he leads this club to huge success, in the mid to long term, or one day he is in charge of one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I am pretty sure this will happen because he has all the qualities you need in this type of key role to be a success."
