No sympathy for Jose ahead of City FA Cup joust

Daniel Farke is the last person you would expect to feel sorry for Jose Mourinho, who is without injured world class trio Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris for the Canaries’ FA Cup visit.

Norwich City's head coach has had to contend with a season-long backlog of various injuries and ailments which have curtailed any bid for upward mobility in the Premier League.

Kane rescued a point in the Carrow Road encounter but the former City loanee is a notable absentee with an FA Cup quarter-final place at stake.

"Without any doubt he can make a difference because he is a top class player. The same when Teemu Pukki is not available for us," said Farke. "We also have some defensive options missing in this game.

"For such a big club it is easier to find a solution. It is not a big advantage.

"The lads who come in might be even more motivated to deliver.

"It's their big chance to win a title this season and everyone knows Jose is always unbelievably focused to win competitions like this. They will be highly motivated and fully switched on to go to the quarter finals.

"After recent results they will be even more motivated."

Tottenham have lost twice in the Premier League and the opening leg of their Champions League knock out tie to RB Leipzig during the past fortnight.

But Farke is expecting a strong response for the final part of their trilogy.

"I think we reached a top level in both previous games against Tottenham," he said. "They equalised pretty late in the home game with a penalty from Kane.

"Then at Tottenham we were pretty close to winning and they scored with a deflected cross.

"When you play such a side you always have to be switched on in each and every second, because sometimes they just need this little moment in order to decide a game. We are not the favourite but we have a chance."

Farke plans changes but wants the same level of performance as Friday's hard-fought 1-0 league win over the Foxes.

"A win is always good for the mood and confidence," he said. "I just wanted a response after Wolves because in the last couple of months for me it was the only game we were not top class.

"We needed a good result but also a good performance and you can feel this mood in the last few days on the training pitch."
