Norwich City’s swoop for Przemyslaw Placheta signals a change of tack for the Canaries’ Championship assault.

The flying Polish Under-21 international winger was unveiled earlier this week, and with fellow new boy Danel Sinani also joining Onel Hernandez in the ranks, head coach Daniel Farke admitted at Colney on Friday injecting some searing pace into City’s attacking play is a top priority.

“You try to be more flexible with the squad, and add something you don’t have,” said Farke. “When we analysed this season we had many possession-based players who can pass the ball but there are some other elements we need like pace on the wings, and physicality in the midfield.

“With Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell we have maybe two number 10s who like to cut inside, so we have brought in a traditional winger who can use his pace behind the last row.

“Patrick Roberts was a signing that didn’t work out and Onel was injured for a lot of the season.

“We felt we needed some pace to be versatile. But we don’t just want Usain Bolt, we need football skills, and Placheta has those.

“Coming from the Polish league you have to wait and see how quickly he can adapt to English football. It is a different level. We are pretty confident he can improve the squad.”

Both Placheta and Danish defensive midfielder Jacob Sorensen fit the profile, as City strive to refresh a squad who will finish rock-bottom of the Premier League.

Norwich complete the campaign at Manchester City on Sunday striving to avoid a 10th straight league defeat.

“Perhaps they have not come from the best leagues but they have lots of potential,” said Farke. “We have brought in some younger prospects and it is always an on going process. Our scouting and recruitment is always aware and awake where we can add talent to benefit us. I am pleased with them both. Sorensen is a pretty versatile midfielder who is good in his passing skills and can score goals.

“Many clubs were looking at him.

“Placheta is an exciting young talent with pace and goalscoring threat. We often use our full backs to attack the wings but to have a traditional winger who can drive to the corner flag makes us a little bit unpredictable.

“That is one of the reasons we signed him.”
