Norwich City transfer rumours: Villa track Buendia and Cantwell. Plus why City’s top talent is in demand
Aston Villa have Norwich City pair Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell on a transfer watch list with Jack Grealish’s future up in the air.
The Daily Telegraph report the Canaries’ attacking midfield duo are being tracked by the Villans, who survived in the Premier League on the final weekend last season.
Talisman Grealish continues to be linked with Manchester United and Dean Smith plans to add some more creativity and punch at the top end of the pitch. The former Brentford chief is being heavily tipped with a return to his old club for Ollie Watkins, after the Bees missed out on promotion.
City value their duo in excess of the club record fee they banked for James Maddison, and have already underlined they will remain firm in this window after rebuffing Liverpool’s enquiry for Jamal Lewis.
Buendia is suspended for the start of the new campaign, after his red card in the final home league game against Burnley. The Argentine has been widely tipped with a Carrow Road departure this summer, while Cantwell is another who can expect speculation to continue after his top flight breakthrough.
The Daily Telegraph claim City’s clutch of young talent, which is potentially available at realistic prices in a bloated market, is proving attractive to many clubs unwilling to match the spending of previous windows given the financial impact of the global pandemic.
The newspaper quote an unnamed agent, who suggests: ‘Championship players are going to be attractive this summer. If you look at a lot of the players who have come up to the Premier League from the Championship recently, many have done well.
‘A lot of clubs want to operate within the £15m-£20m bracket which means players from Brentford and Norwich are probably going to be in demand.’
Norwich have so far brought in Kieran Dowell, Jacob Sorensen and Przemyslaw Placheta to bolster their midfield options for the Championship return. Tom Trybull and Mortiz Leitner can leave the club.
The transfer window for both overseas and domestic transfers closes on October 5. But an additional domestic window for Football League clubs to trade will remain open until October 16.
