TEAM NEWS: Lewis to miss Everton; Drmic out until New Year
Daniel Farke delivered a mixed injury bulletin ahead of Norwich City’s Premier League trip to Everton - with Jamal Lewis the highest profile casualty ruled out this weekend.
Lewis had injections in a long standing knee problem during the week that curtailed his international involvement with Northern Ireland but the left back has failed to respond to treatment in time for a return to league action.
Josip Drmic and Grant Hanley are also out but there was better news around Christoph Zimmermann and Kenny McLean. Here is Farke's full fitness transcript from his pre-match press call at Colney.
Jamal Lewis (knee)
Not available for Everton. He came back from international duty with an injury. We tried today (Friday) to give it a go but he did not feel comfortable on the training pitch. For that we also have to do without him.
It is not a major injury. More a complication in the knee where he had surgery a few years ago. We tried to sort this problem out with some injections. He saw a consultant in London during the middle of the week. It seemed to be okay with the injections but he still feels pain on the training pitch. We hope it is not weeks but we have to be careful what we do with him.
Grant Hanley (groin)
Bad news. He is not able to train with us so far. A little setback in his rehab 10 days ago. He has not been able to join us in team training. We hope it will not be too far away. I am a bit careful with putting a timeline on it because we expected him back in this international break and to be available for Everton.
With him we have to judge it from day to day. It is not a major setback and he is pretty close to come back to team training. I don't want to put any pressure on him or the sports science guys.
Josip Drmic (hamstring)
He was injured in our last game. I can confirm a serious muscle fibre crack in his hamstring. The doctors and physio feel he will be out for about eight weeks. So we are a fortnight into that. We expect him back in January.
Kenny McLean (hamstring)
He was a major doubt but he is available. He was not able to join up with the Scotland squad with some hamstring and groin problems. He had a little hamstring problem before our last game. By the end of the first week of the international break he was capable of training. We spoke to his national team and it might have been possible to play their second game but they didn't want him to travel so he could train with us all of this week.
Christoph Zimmermann (foot)
Back in team training. He is a tough lad and he is available for Everton. It is optimistic to think he could start. But he is a tough German. That means he is capable of a surprise. I don't want to speak too much but whenever he is available to train with us then he is available to start a game.
