Daniel Farke expects a cat-and-mouse affair against Wolves.

City have struggled to break down obdurate opponents at Carrow Road but the German insists his men will not have to go looking for the promotion contenders.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s expensively-assembled squad head to Norfolk on Tuesday as the joint top scorers away from home in the Championship.

“It could be a game when you have to accept that sometimes the opponent has a lot of possession,” he said. “It won’t be a game where we say we sit back and try to counter. I don’t just want us to be compact,

“I want us to be the protagonists as well. Look at the Arsenal game. They had a lot of possession but there were phases when we had chances on the counter.

“We want to press them high but when teams are so good with the ball you have to also be ready to counter. It could be a complicated game. Wolves have a high quality team. You only need to look at the value of the players on their bench.

“It is a big task but we will be rebellious again.”

To do that City’s creative talent must come to the party.

“Some guys are pretty tired. You could see this in the last 15 or 20 minutes (against Derby), especially a player like James Maddison who has played a lot,” said Farke. “For offensive players to be at their most creative they have to be fresh. But they have had a heavy load, with a lot of injuries.

“Nelson Oliveira, Josh Murphy, Marley Watkins, Steven Naismith and Alex Pritchard have been missed, which means we haven’t been able to rest some guys like Cameron Jerome as much as we’d like to.

“I would prefer to give him some rest in the league but the situation with Nelson means it is not possible. It’s not such a problem with our defensive players. But we hope to have offensive players back fit after the international break.”
