Ipswich Town turned the tables on Norwich at Carrow Road today with a 2-1 victory on away turf, following Norwich's one-goal win at Portman Road at the local derby earlier this season.

Ipswich seemed the better team for much of the first half today, but loan signing Jonatan Johansson put Norwich ahead in the 33rd minute - but Jimmy Juan equalised for Town five minutes later from a free kick towards goal.

A frustrating game for both sides was brought to a decisive end when Town substitute Danny Haynes knocked the ball over the line in the closing minutes, despite Norwich protests over handball.

New signings Robert Earnshaw, Zesh Rehman and Johansson started for City, while Darren Huckerby found himself on the bench.

Earnshaw took his first shot on goal for Norwich in the seventh minute, only for the ball to shoot across the ground into the hands of Ipswich keeper Lewis Price.

Darren Currie hit a long ball to the Norwich goal in the 10th minute, and Robert Green made a short jump to his right to catch it. Ipswich moved forward again following Green's goal kick, only for Green to send it back up the pitch again.

A curling Andy Hughes ball towards the Ipswich box was headed out of danger for the visitors by Fabian Wilnis, but the move posed a risk of an own goal by the Town player.

Currie again took a long shot towards the Norwich goal in the 23rd minute, as Ipswich again moved closer. Green jumped high to chip it out of the way.

Ipswich started taking a greater share of play and space and made continued moves into the Norwich half.

But Town then made a substitution, with Danny Haynes coming on for an injured Gavin Williams in the 25th minute.

Jonatan Johansson moved fast along the left-hand side towards the Ipswich box in the 29th minute, taking a powerful shot - only for it to go wide.

A minute later an Matt Richards struck the Norwich post.

Johansson stormed towards the Ipswich goal and put Norwich ahead in the 33rd minute.

Two minutes later a high defensive kick from Gary Doherty ended up knocking Haynes in the chest.

Jimmy Juan equalised for Ipswich from the resulting free kick, clearing a wall of Norwich players, in the 38th minute.

The start of second half saw Nigel Worthington replacing Andy Hughes with Darren Huckerby, and Dickson Etuhu with Carl Robinson.

Canary captain Craig Fleming picked up the first yellow card of the card in the 57th minute for a foul on Scott Barron. Fleming had been spoken to by referee Keith Stroud for an earlier foul on Jimmy Juan.

Carl Robinson picked up City's second booking of the afternoon, in the 60th minute, for a late tackle on Darren Currie.

Craig Fleming appeared to have a hamstring problem in the 68th minute.

Zesh Rahman cleared the ball from the Norwich line after Robert Green ran into Danny Haynes and the ball flew through the air.

Jason Shackell took the place of Fleming in the 71st minute.

A few minutes later Earnshaw ran into the Ipswich half and suffered a heavy tackle to his ankle from a chasing Ipswich player.

Norwich, now deeper into the Ipswich half, were unluckly to score when after Johansson an overhead back kick from McVeigh found itself at the feet of Johansson - but was stopped by the Ipswich keeper.

Further attacks on goal from both sides followed - with Ipswich showing the most dominance. Danny Haynes stormed towards the Norwich goal in the 85th minute, only to shoot wide. Haynes then came off to receive treatment for a knock to his ankle.

He limped back on and within a few minutes was back at the forefront - knocking the ball over Green's line in the 88th minute, although Norwich appealed for handball.

Haynes was replaced in the 90th minute by Luis Castro Sito.
