Ben Godfrey is not about to join Josh Murphy or James Maddison in the Premier League - but a Championship loan move may be on the cards.
Maddison sealed his club record transfer to Leicester City on Wednesday, after Murphy linked up with newly-promoted Cardiff last week.
All-action midfielder Godfrey was touted with top flight Crystal Palace and relegated duo West Brom and Swansea City during recent days, but there have been no bids for the 20-year-old.
City’s top brass have no interest in cashing in on the highly-rated Godfrey, who returned to his parent club after an impressive season-long loan stint at League One play-off finalists Shrewsbury Town.
Maddison’s departure was inevitable, with the Canaries now operating without Premier League parachute payments moving forward, while Murphy’s move to Wales was deemed another astute piece of business.
But Godfrey is rated a one of the club’s brightest prospects, despite speculation around his longer term future.
Daniel Farke admitted when he originally departed for Shrewsbury last season the head coach faced a dilemma whether to keep the holding midfielder at Carrow Road or further his development on loan.
That may be the case again, with Championship new boys Rotherham United touted with a potential season-long loan deal ahead of the new campaign.
Alex Tettey signed a fresh deal last month to extend his stay at the Canaries, but Tettey’s workload in the Championship will again have to be carefully managed while Louis Thompson is on the comeback trail after two Achilles injuries checked his progress.
Thompson is aiming to be back in full training during pre-season but a loan option may be the preferred route to get the central midfielder much-needed game time after his lengthy lay-off.
Former York prospect Godfrey is contracted to the Canaries until at least 2021 after signing a new four year deal less than 12 months ago.
