Grant Hanley admits answers are in short supply at present for the Norwich City squad as they wait for football to resume.

Daniel Farke’s squad have not played since March 7 due to the global pandemic, and all the various scenarios to restart the Premier League hinge on government and public health bodies easing some of the lockdown restrictions over the coming weeks.

Hanley has already spoken publicly about his close family working in the NHS and the City captain was very active in the #PlayersTogether movement formed to raise funds directly for the health service.

The Canaries’ squad have also pledged money and reached out to fans in the local community, but Hanley concedes there is still too much uncertainty over what happens next.

“There is so much of the unknown around what is going on for football. You are constantly on the phone to the club, to the players,” he said, speaking in Captains Call with Celtic counterpart Scott Brown hosted by both clubs’ shirt sponsor, Dafabet. “Boys are wanting to know what is going on and there aren’t many answers at the minute, when we are starting back, so on. What does it mean for next season?

“Will there be a break in between if they start this season again?

“Both my mum and sister are NHS workers, so they are working on the frontline and that is a worry on a personal level. First of all you worry about them and hope they are all right, and then the grand parents as well. My wife is pregnant and even that is strange, in terms of her having to go to midwife appointments on her own.

“I was best man at a wedding this summer but he has had to move that back to October, which was the earliest date.

“So whether I am able to make that I don’t know.

“You want to stay professional, you have to keep yourself fit physically and mentally but it is not like in the summer when you know you have a date of July 1 or whatever when you come back to pre-season and you have to be ready. Right now you wonder, ‘Am I doing too much?’ or ‘Am I doing too little?’.

“You always have to look at the bigger picture. There are people in much tougher situations than us.”
