Daniel Farke expects Cameron Jerome to seal a move to Championship rivals Derby County.

Jerome has travelled to the East Midlands to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical on a reported £2m move.

Farke revealed on Tuesday afternoon the experienced striker is keen to play regular football, and his pending departure will leave a gap for City to bring in a new hitman.

“We can be honest. We expect that there will be a deal,” he said. “It is not 100pc done but that is the situation at the moment. It is a tricky situation.

“I think he has done so much for this club, he is an experienced player with many goals and appearances, especially in the Championship.

“Since I worked with him I can only praise him. He is a nice guy, a cool guy, great to work with and a great attitude. Sadly, he struggled a bit with several injuries. Especially his back and I haven’t given him too many minutes in the last few months but he has always been there supporting the lads.

“It is great to have him in the squad.

“It is also a sign of being respectful for what he has done for our club that when there is a wish and perhaps he wants to leave in this moment, we speak with him about this topic.

“You have to take on board what the player wants. Particularly when they have done so much for this club. Then you look at the fact we can lower our wage bill, bring in a transfer fee and create a space to bring in a replacement.

“We have taken this decision. It is not 100pc done but we are open to this.

“It is fair to say we will be looking in the market. We have let Alex Pritchard go and Yanic Wildschut on loan so if Cameron goes there is some space in the squad.

“We will search for how to improve our squad in the striker positions.”

Farke also confirmed Russell Martin is in Glasgow to complete his loan move to Rangers, but Steven Naismith’s future will take longer to sort out. The Scottish international is set to return north of the border this month.

“Nothing yet,” said Farke. “The most important thing for him is to be back in a good shape and he scored for the Under-23s. He is searching for a new challenge. I expect that will be done in the next few days but it is not as close as the other lads.

“Maybe in 10 days. But no pressure. I mentioned many times Steven is a professional lad and it would not be a problem to stay here but he wants to move. He has made that clear.

“Russ is quite similar to Cam. Yes, he is now in Glasgow and the clubs are pretty close and with Russ and his personal terms. I expect that to be done.”

Martin, speaking to reporters on arriving at Glasgow airport on Tuesday morning, hopes his Ibrox switch can get him back in the Scotland squad.

“One of the attractions is getting back into the Scotland jersey. I played for a long time but unfortunately not been in the team for the last few games,” he said.

“It was a massive attraction to come up here and hopefully play some football and get back into the international frame with a new manager on the horizon.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here. There’s still a bit to do but let’s get it done today.

“To be honest there’s been interest from a lot of clubs - Championship down in England - but as soon as I knew Rangers were interested a couple of weeks ago I said to my agent from the off this was the one I wanted.

“It’s rumbled on a bit but I’m really pleased it’s finally getting done. The attraction is pretty obvious really - the size of the club and the position it’s in.”
