Norwich City are believed to be among a host of Coca Cola Championship clubs vying for the signature of Wigan centre back Fitz Hall.

The Latics defender has been given permission by manager Chris Hutchings to find himself a loan move after falling out of favour at the JJB Stadium behind the likes of new signing Titus Bramble, Paul Scharner and Emerson Boyce.

And the Canaries are believed to be one of several clubs eager to snap up the big former Oldham Athletic, Southampton and Crystal Palace defender.

They face stiff competition from the likes of Palace, Charlton Athletic, Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Ipswich Town who are all believed to be interest in the 27-year-old nicknamed 'One size'.

However, if City boss Peter Grant can persuade Hall to switch to Norfolk when the loan window opens next week, he could fill the Canaries vacant number five shirt and solve a potential headache for the Scot, who currently has skipper Jason Shackell out injured, although former Cameroonian international Lucien Mettomo is currently on trial at Colney.

But the biggest competition could come from table-topping Coventry, as their boss Iain Dowie gave Hall his football League debut when the pair were at Oldham, after signing the defender from Chesham.

Dowie then signed Hall for more than a £1m when he was Palace boss and made him his skipper.

Hall then made the switch to the north west for £3m at the start of last season but was restricted to just 25 appearances after a knee injury and this campaign he has only played once, in the 1-0 Carling Cup defeat to Hull last month.
