Kieran Dowell is out to nail down a ‘dream role’ at Norwich City.

The former Everton youngster was influential in Monday’s opening 3-0 German tour win over SC Verl, with a thumping first goal in City colours followed by a quality assist for Adam Idah.

Dowell looked a classy addition operating in a number 10 position that proved difficult to fill in the club’s failed tilt at Premier League survival.

But with bustling striker Jordan Hugill and pacy wide player Przemyslaw Placheta now joining the likes of Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia at Carrow Road, Dowell sees the potential to inflict damage on the Championship.

“You look at the options when you get on the ball in this side and it is a bit of a dream to be honest. We have a bit of everything,” he said. “For different opponents, maybe if we need pace or people in those attacking pockets, we seem to have all the bases covered.

“The boss is very detailed, very thorough and he has drilled into us already the key messages because we only have a very condensed period of time to be ready. We both agree I can operate in a number of positions.

“Not just in the 10 but in that half position or off either the right and left. But I see already how we want to get the ball and play it through the middle and that suits my game.”

Dowell was delighted to get off the mark for a number of reasons.

“It is not just about trying to impress the manager. You also want to impress the lads when you first arrive so they know they can give you the ball and you will do something with it,” said the 22-year-old.

“It is also about building relationships. You saw on the second goal Adam can make that run and he knows I will try to find him with the pass. It is great to have pre-season to work on it.”

Farke is a huge fan of a player who was part of a World Cup winning group for England at under-20 level, but has also warned Dowell he will have a battle on to cement his place in the side.

“We wouldn’t have signed him if we were not totally convinced,” he said. “But Marco Stiepermann was there with a top class goal and assist in the first friendly. A top performance. We have Todd (Cantwell), another top player.

“One thing is for sure we need more goals in general but definitely from this position. We have delivered so far and there is real competition.”
