Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96 do not expect to complete a deal for Norwich City defender Timm Klose before the German league kick off this weekend.

Hannover reportedly made their approach prior to the weekend’s Championship defeat at Sheffield United, after being linked with Klose earlier this summer, with discussions on going regarding a fee between 2m and 3m Euros.

But German sports web site, Sport Buzzer, had quotes from Hannover chief Martin Kind on Tuesday morning claiming 96 is still weighing up whether to bring in Klose or Sunderland’s Papy Djilobodji.

“It is open between the two, there are discussions, but still no commitment,” said Kind. “But we also look at the market in addition. We agree on the principle that we want to engage a defender.

“Before the Bremen game, it will probably be nothing. We have to be careful that difficult decisions do not create restlessness in the team.”

Klose has 12 months left on his existing Carrow Road deal but City can still sell players into European transfer markets ahead of the August 31 deadline.

The Swiss international had a successful stint in the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg before moving to Carrow Road in January 2016 for a reported £8m fee.

City head coach Daniel Farke will be pressed for an update on Tuesday lunchtime at his pre-match press briefing ahead of Preston’s Championship visit to Carrow Road.

The 30-year-old centre back is a popular figure with the Canaries’ support and has been a regular alongside Grant Hanley in the early weeks of the new league season.

Hannover need central defensive reinforcements as they gear up for Saturday’s Bundesliga kick off at Werder Bremen, with Timo Hubers set to miss six months of the campaign after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage.
