Jamal Lewis insists his stunning Stamford Bridge impact means he can handle the Windsor Park roar as he prepares for his Northern Ireland debut.

Norwich City’s talented 20-year-old burst onto the national stage with a goal in the high profile FA Cup third round replay at Chelsea, watched by his national boss Michael O’Neill.

Lewis’ breakthrough season at Carrow Road could now include a first cap for his country in Saturday’s Belfast friendly against South Korea.

“I have been told it will be electric at Windsor Park,” he said. “Michael McGovern has told me already that playing at home is such an advantage for this country, as it should be. For the fans to turn up like they do, it’s amazing.

“He said it’s like having a 12th man so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve played for the U19s and the U21s so I know what playing for Northern Ireland is all about but to get called up for the senior squad is a huge honour for me and my family. A brilliant moment.

“I’m just enjoying the week and looking forward to the game on Saturday. It’ll feel great to be out there in front of the fans.

“That (Chelsea game) was only my fourth or fifth so I wasn’t expecting it at all. To do that at Stamford Bridge in front of the television, it was a great moment for me.

“Everything has gone so quick since that game but it’s the kind of thing you dream of as a young boy and I’m just enjoying it so much.

“It’s now great to be training with the calibre of footballers in the Northern Ireland squad.

“To learn from players who have played in the Premier League and even the Champions League - it’s brilliant.

“I’ve proved at club level that I can be trusted but I’ve got to prove myself at international level.”
