Patrick Roberts is ready for lift off at Norwich City after failing to make his mark in the Spanish top flight.

The Manchester City loanee has caught the eye during pre-season for the Canaries and aims to use his latest posting to get back on track after an injury-hit loan spell at relegated La Liga side Girona.

The 22-year-old was unable to reproduce the success of a previous extended stint away from his parent club at Celtic but is ready to grab his chance at Carrow Road.

"You get ups and downs in your career," he said, after playing less than 600 minutes last season in the Spanish top tier. "Obviously you go from Celtic where you are winning pretty much every week and winning trophies, playing well and the fans appreciate what you do to then go to Girona and experience a different football culture there.

"I had an injury there, the same the season before, and when you are playing games and get injured it does set you back. This season it is about staying as much on the pitch as I can.

"You get good and bad times in football but you have to have the right mentality.

"I've never actually played (regularly) in the Premier League so it will be my first test and obviously with Norwich it's an exciting one. We know it's a tough test, it's a different competition altogether, the best league in the world, so we'll be right up for it. The manager will get us up for it and we'll be raring to go for the first game."

Roberts admitted he did not know any of Farke's squad prior to his summer arrival.

"It's been great. It feels like I have been here forever. I am thoroughly enjoying it," he said. "I didn't really know any of the boys before I came in. Just the names. I knew Kenny (McLean) from playing him up in Scotland a few times and I did know the names of the young boys.

"You've got to have the right balance and right mix.

"We've got some experienced players and we've got some young players, some good young talents.

"We've seen that last season in the Championship but obviously we all know it's a different test altogether, so we've got to be right up for it and continue that, but still realise it's a tough ask and we've got to be well prepared.

"I've come in and obviously I know I can't disrupt that, I need to add to that and they've been very good with me and I can only give back what they give to me, so it's been good."
