James Maddison's old Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is getting tapped up for the inside track on Norwich City's prized asset.
The £20m-rated youngster is heavily touted with a Premier League move this summer, after fears were allayed he was set for a long lay-off following the knee ligament injury suffered on the final day of the season.
McInnes gave Maddison his big break on loan at Pittodrie last season, and the Dons’ chief gets the hype around the 21-year-old.
“There’s more than a few managers who have asked me about him and that’s no surprise as he can play for the majority of teams in the top flight,” he said.
“He took a bad knock in their last game of the season and hopefully it’s nothing too serious but he might be out for a while.
“He is certainly one who has grabbed his chance in the Championship and I’m not surprised Premier League clubs are looking at him.
“He was always one from an early age everyone was getting excited about.
“For Coventry City to sell him for a few million to Norwich as a teenager suggests everybody saw that potential.
“James, by his own admission, needed to go out and play at a good level and get that robustness, which in his time with us helped him.
“He went back to Norwich a bit more ready to play in their first team. He always had the swagger and the confidence to back himself.”
