Steven Naismith has completed his move to Hearts following his release from Norwich City - with reports north of the border the delay was to net one final payment from the Premier League club.

Free agent Naismith was not offered a new Carrow Road contract after failing out of favour under Daniel Farke and spending the last 18 months on loan at Hearts.

The Scottish international has now signed a four-year deal at Tynecastle, where he has proved a hit scoring 18 goals in 48 appearances over two loan stints and earning a recall to the national squad.

The Edinburgh Evening News report on Thursday morning Naismith was due a 'sizeable final payment' from the Canaries if he did not join a new club for the duration of July, following his release along with the likes of Matt Jarvis and Yanic Wildschut. But that information is believed to be well wide of the mark.

City reportedly had to pay his former club Everton a fee triggered by a promotion clause in the original contract that saw Naismith move to Norfolk in January 2016 for a reported £8m transfer fee. Naismith was brought in by Alex Neil to help keep the club in the Premier League.

The attacker notched six league goals in 44 appearances but never established himself at Carrow Road - making just three senior appearances for City over the past two seasons.

Naismith had hinted last season he may consider a move abroad, as he enters the final stage of his playing career, but has now become Hearts' fourth signing of the summer.
