Norwich City are playing the waiting game over transfer target Billy Sharp's next move.

The 21-year-old Scunthorpe striker was in the city on Wednesday as Canaries boss Peter Grant gave him a glimpse of what to expect should he become City's big signing of the summer.

And the ball now appears to be firmly in Sharp's court, with City's offer of £2m plus significant add-ons the only one that has matched Scunthorpe's valuation of the player.

Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday are still in the hunt, but Wolves are believed to be reluctant to take their bid up to the £3m mark that it could cost to secure the 32-goal striker's services, and Wednesday won't get involved in a bidding war.

“Billy was given the grand tour,” said Sharp's representative, Imre Varadi. “I don't really want to say much more. Yes, he was impressed by the club and, yes, we had talks, and at the moment, that is where it's at.”

Grant is clearly keeping his options open, with reports that his transfer net had spread to South America.

The City boss was apparently beaten to the signature of Peruvian international striker Miguel Mostto, byBarnsley.

Tykes boss Simon Davey, who has spent around £400,000 to bring Mossto to England from Cienciano in Peru, claims the Canaries were one of the clubs he beat to the 29-year-old's signature.

“We had to fight off a lot of competition for his signature from Norwich and Leicester as well as a Turkish club,” said Davey. “He was identified to us by a contact of mine. I watched him and was very impressed.”
