The Canaries - true to the very best Norwich City tradition - bowed out of this season's travels with something that all too many supporters believed was way beyond them - a simple, straightforward away win.

It was wholly befitting that on his first competitive return to the club that nurtured his teenage talent, the contest would be decided by a stunning, 16th minute strike from Cardiff boy Robert Earnshaw who was treated to a heroes welcome by the Bluebirds' faithful.

Thereafter Norwich produced a performance that owed more to effort than entertainment but this was still a fine display.

Most telling of all, however, was events at the final whistle where one by one, the Norwich players striped off their less-than-loved green away day shirts and threw them to those long suffering Norwich away supporters.

Most poignant of all was the sight of Andy Hughes following suit.

Given the difficult relationship he has had of late with those same supporters, it was a big gesture on the player's part and hopefully, it will be a case of one or two bridges starting to be built.
