Savvas Mourgos aims to repay Norwich City's faith after signing a new Carrow Road deal.
The midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October, that ended his season, but has penned a one year extension, with the option of another year.
The 21-year-old was due to be out of contract this coming summer and is now keen to prove is worth, after injury cut short a loan stint at Dutch side FC Dordrecht.
“I’m really pleased. I’m very happy that the club has offered me one more year so they can see what I can do next season out on loan or maybe in the first-team,” he said. “The plan is to get back fit as soon as possible and we will see.
“When you see the club on the brink of promotion, it’s very exciting. And you also know, if you play well and work hard, you will get a chance to make your debut.
“It’s been very frustrating this season.
“When I started out on loan at Dordrecht, it was a bit tough getting used to the football over there.
“After a few games, I found myself playing a lot better so I thought I was going to play a lot of games and give myself the experience to get ready to challenge for the first-team.
“I got injured early, I played only ten games and scored three goals. But that’s football, you get injuries. Now I’m trying to get back as soon as I can. Hopefully I’m ready for pre-season.”
The former Arsenal youngster, speaking to the club’s official site, had no idea his injury would initially keep him out so long.
“I didn’t know it was a bad one at the time, because it didn’t hurt that much,” he said. “I heard a little click on the outside of my knee but I just thought it may have been a bit stiff. I trained again and then I thought it was a bit bad because it became very painful and swollen.
“It was the worst day. I don’t think the physios expected it to be an ACL injury when they first saw it.
“When they scan came back, Damo (physiotherapist Damien Bowyer) told me the news and said my season was done. I didn’t want to say anything. It was tough to deal with but I look back on my time in Holland with pride.
“The Dutch game suited my style. They like to move the ball on the floor.”
