Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has completed his sixth signing of the summer after snapping up former Arsenal striker Arturo Lupoli on a season-long loan.

Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has completed his sixth signing of the summer after snapping up former Arsenal striker Arturo Lupoli on a season-long loan.

The Canaries were strongly linked with the 21-year-old Italian frontman last week when his club Fiorentina released a statement claiming they had received an offer from Norwich.

At the time Roeder denied any knowledge of such a move but there was clearly work going on behind the scenes and the youngster's capture for an undisclosed loan fee means Jamie Cureton and Chris Martin finally have some company in the striking department.

Lupoli, who also played on loan for Derby during his time in England, could make his debut in next Monday's prestige home friendly with Tottenham, and is already looking forward to a fresh challenge with the Canaries.

“I am very happy to be here and hope to contribute for a great season for Norwich City and to be successful,” he said. “I spoke to the manager and I really feel that he wants me here.

“I know a lot about Norwich City - I was with Arsenal when they and my teammate David Bentley were in the Premier League and have followed their progress.”

Lupoli had been frozen out of Fiorentina's first team plans at the Artemio Franchi after returning from a loan stint at Serie B club Treviso.

The former Gunner had also been linked with potential moves to Italian outfits Udinese and Siena but Siena sporting director Manuel Gerolin recently ruled out any possible deal.

Lupoli only made one senior Arsenal appearance under Arsene Wenger before notching seven goals in a 34 game loan spell at Derby - making his first Rams appearance against Norwich in a goalless draw at Pride Park during the early stages of the 2006-7 season.

Lupoli signed a five year deal with Fiorentina 12 months ago but his first team chances were limited behind Adrian Mutu, Christian Vieri, Italian U21 talent Giampaolo Pazzani and summer capture from AC Milan Alberto Gilardino.

That alerted Roeder and he duly completed a deal that delighted City chairman Roger Munby, who commented: "This is an exciting signing which reflects the ambition of Glenn Roeder and Norwich City Football Club as we approach the start of the new season."

Lupoli joins full-backs Ryan Bertrand and Elliot Omosuzi as loan signings at Carrow Road, with midfielder Sammy Clingan, winger Wes Hoolahan and central defender Dejan Stefanovic having joined the club in permanent deals.
