Anthony Spyrou says he ‘can’t wait’ to get started for Wrexham, to start showing Norwich City that he can handle men’s football.
The young Canaries striker has joined the National League promotion hopefuls on a youth loan until the end of the season and could make his debut on Saturday at Hartlepool, as the Dragons look to close the one-point gap to leaders Leyton Orient.
“I really can’t wait to get going,” said the 19-year-old. “I have found out a little bit about the club, that they are third and just a point off top, and as soon as I found that out I wanted to get started straight away.
“It was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.”
The Essex-raised forward has scored 10 goals in 21 games for City’s U23s this season, with four goals in four games in January earning him a nomination for the Premier League Two Player of the Month award.
He recently returned from a short injury absence, coming off the bench to help the U23s comeback from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Stoke last week, before heading to north Wales.
“I have been doing well,” said Spyrou. “I hit a nice run of form and got nominated for player of the month; then I got a little injury but here I am now.
“It is a great platform for me here to show what I can do at men’s football level because it is a lot different from under-23s. I am very thankful for the opportunity to come here.
“If I can score a few goals and help Wrexham get promotion, it only looks great for all of us so it is a win-win.
“The Norwich first team are absolutely flying. I can see them pushing for promotion. There are only a few games left but I can see them doing it.”
Spyrou was recently among a clutch of academy youngsters to sign a new contract until 2020, having signed his first professional deal last summer.
“I would say my main attribute is my pace and power,” Spyrou added, speaking to Wrexham newspaper The Leader. “I am very quick and as soon as I get a chance then I can find the back of the net.”
