Norwich City transfer rumours: City want Ajax defender
Ajax centre back Sven Botman is in Norwich City's sights, according to reports in Holland.
The 19-year-old centre back with the Dutch giants is currently on loan at Eredivisie rivals SC Heerenveen but respected daily newspaper, De Telegraaf, claim on Thursday morning City have made contact with a view to bringing the youngster to England.
The article suggests there is potentially a 'lucrative and longer term commitment' from Norwich for Botman, capped at every international level by Holland from Under-15s to Under-20s level, who is still reportedly on a youth contract at Ajax.
Such interest from the Premier League club poses a 'difficult choice' for Ajax director of football, Marc Overmaars, who planned to keep Botman at Heerenveen for the rest of this season before making a firm decision on his future.
The left-footed centre back, who turns 20 this weekend, is under contract at Ajax until 2022 but has caught the eye with two goals and four assists in 18 appearances this season in the Dutch top tier.
City have had to contend with major injuries to their central defence for the majority of the Premier League season. Ben Godfrey is out until February with a knee issue, while Timm Klose is not expected to return before March at the very earliest.
Christoph Zimmermann and Grant Hanley were both out for lengthy spells before returning to the ranks prior to the festive spell.
City did sanction loan moves earlier this week for youngsters Akin Famewo and Rocky Bushiri, while Sean Raggett is with League One Portsmouth on a season long deal, but the Canaries have been touted with reinforcements to that area of the squad this month.
