Norwich City are reportedly in talks to sign John Obi Mikel.
The 32-year-old's contract at Middlesbrough is about to come to an end and Nigerian website Sports 247 claim the Canaries and Sheffield United are in discussions to sign the midfielder.
Mikel, a two-time Premier League winner at Chelsea, has also been linked with a move abroad but he insists he would prefer to stay in England.
"I think I will prefer to stay in England and continue my education in football," he said. "My family is here and it is a country that I have lived for more than ten years, so preferably I will play in England next season, hopefully in the EPL."
It is understood that a defensive midfielder is on the club's summer wish-list but it would be a huge surprise if City were to sign the Nigerian. Sporting director Stuart Webber has insisted the club will stick to the transfer policy that worked so well in the Championship, whether Mikel could fit into that framework appears doubtful especially when they already have Alex Tettey as an experienced midfielder to call upon. Mikel is also likely to expect a considerable wage, which would be another stumbling block.
