Teemu Pukki’s future could lie in the Premier League, with fresh reports in Turkey Besiktas will miss out on the Norwich City frontman.
The 30-year-old appears to have been the subject of a concerted charm offensive from fans of the Istanbul club in recent days, who have bombarded his social media channels.
Pukki’s representative reportedly held talks with the club, who qualified for the Europa League qualifiers next season after a top three finish. While the Finn’s national boss, Markku Kanerva, wants his star man to remain in one of Europe’s ‘top leagues’ ahead of spearheading Finland’s first-ever appearance at the delayed European Championships in 2021.
That prompted City head coach Daniel Farke to reiterate he sees the club’s former player-of-the-year as a key figure in the Championship fightback, after the goals dried up in the second part of the Premier League season.
But Turkish television sports reporter Sercan Dikme, who works for the Haber Global news channel, claims a Besiktas move for Pukki is a financial non starter, with suggestions of a loan with a view to buy deal wide of the mark amid Premier League interest.
He tweeted on Monday: ‘Teemu Pukki is not on Besiktas’ agenda. There are offers from Pukki to the Premier League. Besiktas can neither pay the player’s wages nor the hire (loan) fee to the club. I don’t even count the transfer fee option.’
Pukki worked with Brentford chief Thomas Frank at Brondby for two years. Frank has guided the Bees’ to Tuesday’s Championship play-off final against Fulham at Wembley.
The forward is under contract with Norwich until 2022, with the club believed to have a further one year option. The Finn only penned his last improved deal 12 months ago, after his goals fired City to the Premier League.
Pukki has notched 41 goals in 84 appearances for the Canaries, despite his struggles in front of goal following a foot injury at Leicester City in December, after starting his top flight campaign in prolific fashion.
