Norwich City academy winger Aidan Fitzpatrick is set for a return to Scotland on loan.

That’s according to Scottish newspaper the Daily Record, who report that the 19-year-old will be returning to Scottish Championship action with Queen of the South.

The Scotland Under-19 international joined Norwich from Partick Thistle in the summer of 2019, having made 32 appearances since emerging from the youth ranks.

Reports north of the border suggested the deal was with around £350,000 initially, with potential add-on fees and a sell-on fee included in the deal, with Norwich opting not to publicise the length of contract the Scot had signed.

He made 14 appearances for City’s under-23s last season, with his only goal coming against Aston Villa in a Premier League Two fixture at Villa Park during the early stages of last season.

He only featured in one of the EFL Trophy games played by David Wright’s development squad, starting the 3-1 away defeat to the first team of League One side Portsmouth.

Now Fitzpatrick looks poised for a return to senior contention, although the Scottish Championship season is not due to get under way until October 17.

Top flight action has already started north of the border but Queen of the South - managed by former Scotland, Sunderland and Kilmarnock midfielder Allan Johnston - kick-off with three League Cup games at the start of October.

The Dumfries club narrowly avoided relegation last season, as they were sitting second from bottom when the campaign was brought to an end in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
