Charlton boss Alan Pardew admitted that full-back Danny Mills “plays on the edge” after a night of controversy against his old club at The Valley. Charlton boss Alan Pardew admitted that full-back Danny Mills “plays on the edge” after a night of controversy against his old club at The Valley.

The ex-Canary had a running battle with Darren Huckerby for much of the evening and was then involved in the incident that saw City skipper Dion Dublin sent off for what referee Jarnail Singh claimed was a head butt - though TV replays showed nothing of the kind.

“It was disappointing to see the big fellow running off. I don't know what went on,” said Pardew.

“Danny plays on the edge, that's what's made him a success. He probably danced a little too close to the edge tonight, but he played very well.

“I don't want anyone getting sent off, especially for an alleged movement of the head.

“We really controlled the game and I was disappointed not to score until the 85th minute. But I was pleased with everything tonight. We penetrated at will at times.”

Pardew had particular praise for skipper Andy Reid, who scored both penalties in Charlton's 2-0 win.

“The captain was brilliant tonight, he was driving us on and when he missed a chance he almost said 'I'm going to make up for that' and he did,” said Pardew.
