Norwich City star Emi Buendia has missed out on the Premier League Player of the Month award for December.

The Argentine was one of the eight players nominated for the award, sponsored by EA Sports, following his superb form last month but it's Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who has come out on top.

The 21-year-old scored a goal and assisted three others as runaway leaders Liverpool maintained their lead at the summit, also helping the Reds to win the Fifa Club World Cup.

Buendia was also nominated, alongside Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster, Southampton's top scorer Danny Ings, Wolves attacker Adama Traore and Leicester star Jamie Vardy.

When the shortlist was revealed a Premier League statement pointed out: "Buendia created 29 chances for his Norwich City team-mates, the most by any player in a single month in the Premier League since Opta started recording such data, and that included two assists."

The shortlist was then put to a public vote on the EA Sports website, with the votes combined with those of the 20 Premier League club captains and a panel of football experts.

Buendia was hoping to follow in the footsteps of City's top scorer Teemu Pukki, who won the August award after he scored five goals during the opening six matches of the season.
