City target friendlies ahead of Premier League restart

Norwich City will play some friendly games before their Premier League restart on June 20, it is understood.
Daniel Farke’s men are keen to experience empty stadiums in preparation for the top-flights resumption behind closed doors.
Reports on Wednesday suggested City would face Championship side Queens Park Rangers in an exhibition fixture next week, although that hasn’t been agreed as of yet.
When asked whether playing a friendly would benefit City’s cause heading into the remaining nine fixtures, Farke claimed it would be something he’d be keen to see if it took place under the appropriate circumstances.
“At the moment in these strange times, we have to live day to day and make a decision from day to day.
“But, if we’re allowed and it’s confirmed under which circumstances we’re allowed, for example, if you’re allowed to use the stadiums to play a friendly.
“At the moment, it seems like we are allowed to play friendlies before the start - something the Bundesliga didn’t allow and I think that was not perfect,” Farke explained.
Germany’s domestic divisions resumed on May 16, with three game weeks having been completed since the division’s restart.
Farke believes the Premier League can learn lessons from the Bundesliga’s return - including ensuring that players are better prepared to both deal with the physical load and aiding the quality of the competition when it does restart by experiencing empty stadiums.
A national newspaper report suggested friendlies would be formally allowed by the FA, but teams could only travel within a 90 minute radius, although the report went onto suggest sides could be give special permission to travel beyond if there wasn’t a team available under those conditions.
“It should be allowed that we have at least one friendly to get used to the processes and get the trust and in this way I think we could do it even a bit better than the Bundesliga but it’s also true that we have a little more time to prepare.
“Let’s wait and see what circumstances we’re allowed to do this but I think it makes sense to have at least one or two friendlies, that’s for sure.”
