Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis helped Northern Ireland earn an impressive 0-0 draw with Holland to miss out on automatic qualification for Euro 2020 – but the play-off route remains open.
Lewis played 81 minutes of the goalless draw in Belfast on Saturday night, with Steven Davis missing a penalty midway through the first half for the hosts.
The Canaries defender won his 12th international cap and was replaced by Jordan Thompson with nine minutes remaining, with Norwich keeper Michael McGovern an unused substitute.
That point was enough to put the Dutch through to next summer's finals with a game to spare and ends the automatic hopes for Michael O'Neill's team, who look set for a second chance through the play-offs.
The Irish are away to group leaders Germany on Tuesday (7.45pm), knowing that their play-off place is secured, with a draw to determine their potential path to qualification.
Elsewhere, City midfielder Kenny McLean was not involved during a 2-1 win at Cyprus, with the Scots also guaranteed a play-off place.
