Ryan Bennett has been linked with a sensational return to Norwich City - with the Canaries also said to have made an enquiry for Fulham defender Alfie Mawson.
Sky Sports report that Norwich are interested in recruiting an additional defensive option in light of reports linking Ben Godfrey with a move away from the club.
Fulham defender Mawson joined the club for £20million in August 2018. He made 28 appearances this campaign for Scott Parker but knee surgery in January ended his run in the side, with the form of Michael Hector and Tim Ream keeping him on the fringes.
The Cottagers could seal promotion to the Premier League with victory over Brentford in the Championship play-off final tonight, which could make Mawson surplus to requirements if Parker looks to refresh his squad. Mawson was named in the England squad for games against the Netherlands and Italy in 2018, but failed to make an appearance from the bench.
The report mentions that the Canaries have enquired about the availability of Bennett, who played for City between 2012 and 2017, making 119 appearances.
Bennett spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City but only made five appearances during his spell at the King Power Stadium. The defender has family in Norfolk and is thought to still have a house in the county.
The 30-year-old was one of seven high-profile names to be released after Stuart Webber was appointed as City’s sporting director, with John Ruddy also departing when his contract expired. Both went on to join Wolves and played a significant part in their Championship title-winning season - but now find themselves in the shadows at Molineux.
This report has done little to dampen reports that Godfrey could be edging closer to the exit door - with Bayer Leverkusen the latest side linked with a move for the 22-year-old.
City boss Daniel Farke has indicated the Canaries would look to bolster their squad with more Championship experience - Mawson and Bennett would both provide that, but neither option would be cheap.
