Norwich City could have competition from the seemingly bottomless resources of Premiership champions Chelsea if they are to pursue reported interest in League Two hot-shot Karl Hawley.

Norwich City could have competition from the seemingly bottomless resources of Premiership champions Chelsea if they are to pursue reported interest in League Two hot-shot Karl Hawley.

Canaries boss Nigel Worthington is said to be interested in investing £500,000 in the Carlisle United striker - who has scored league goals this season - in the summer, although Carrow Road was maintaining its no comment policy yesterday.

However, there's a clutch of clubs interested in the 24-year-old - with scouts from Norwich, Tottenham, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Manchester City and Chelsea all in attendance to see Hawley in action in the 5-0 rout at Darlington on Saturday.

Carlisle boss Paul Simpson has a host of young stars in his table-topping team, but isn't concerned at the interest.

“I can't worry about things like Premier League clubs looking at our players,” he said. “They're all contracted to us, and the only way they'll go is if its' right for the club, and we believe it's the right opportunity for a player.”
