Norwich City could delve into non-League territory for another signing after Cambridge City's Scott Neilson began a two-week trial with the club.

Manager Bryan Gunn snapped up striker Cody McDonald for a five-figure fee from Ryman League club Dartford last season and gave him seven first team outings in the Championship.

Now midfielder Neilson, who is under contract at British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division club Cambridge, could get the chance to follow suit if he impresses at Colney.

"A sale could bring in some player funds," said Cambridge manager Gary Roberts. "Ever since I've been here we've sold players and moved them on to a higher level at a bigger club."

Neilson made 49 appearances in all competitions for Cambridge last season, scoring 13 goals. The club finished fourth in the Southern League Premier Division.

Neilson, a right-sided midfielder, signed for Cambridge from Ware Town.

Gunn has already added two midfielders to his squad with Matthew Gill arriving on a free transfer from Exeter and Wales international Owain Tudur Jones signing from Swansea for an undisclosed fee.
