Malmo have nipped in to head the queue for reported Norwich City striker target Isaac Kiese Thelin.
City and FC Copenhagen were earlier this weekend linked in the Belgian media with a possible swoop for frontman Thelin, currently out of favour at Anderlecht under former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.
German side Paderborn were also touted with the Swede's signature but Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws updated their original report on Sunday night to suggest Malmo are now poised to agree a loan move with a buy option for the 27-year-old.
Thelin was on loan with Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen last season but was contained to the bench during his season in Germany.
It was a loan spell with Waasland-Beveren in the 2017/18 season that saw him catch the eye of the German side, with Thelin netting 16 goals in 27 games for the Belgian top-flight side.
Thelin has played 10 times in the Belgian first division this season, failing to score. His involvement has been largely from the bench, as ex-Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe is the first choice option.
City boss Daniel Farke reiterated again prior to Saturday's FA Cup win at Preston City are looking to strengthen during this window but caveated that by saying the Canaries would not depart with 'silly money' as they bid for Premier League survival.
The German insisted City have learnt from their previous mistakes, namely that January window back in 2016 which saw Steven Naismith and Timm Klose arrive at the club for signficant transfer fees.
