Norwich City footballer Matty Pattison has been arrested and charged with drink-driving, the club has confirmed.

Norwich City footballer Matty Pattison has been arrested and charged with drink-driving, the club has confirmed.

The arrest is understood to have happened at the club's Colney training ground yesterday morning.

Pattison, 21, has been bailed to appear before Norwich magistrates on March 31.

Norwich City chief executive Neil Doncaster said in a statement last night: “We understand that Matthew Pattison was arrested this morning and has been charged with a drink-driving offence.

“We will be investigating

what has happened and co-operating fully with Norfolk Constabulary.

“When we have more facts at our disposal we will be in a position to comment further.”

South African-born Pattison is City manager Glenn Roeder's only permanent signing to date.

The midfielder joined the Canaries on loan from Roeder's old club, Newcastle United, in November, making 10 appearances.

In January, he signed for City in a three-and-a-half-year deal that could cost the club up to £500,000.

Since then he has made seven appearances, plus five as a substitute, scoring no goals.

On signing the player, Roeder said: “He's a tough lad, the right sort for where we are now - he doesn't know what it is to lose.”

Pattison himself described signing for Norwich as “the easiest decision I have ever made”.

Pattison played the full 90 minutes for City during Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United.
