Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey has explained how activities in quarantine have left him reminiscing over his childhood.
The 22-year-old has offered an insight into a footballer’s world inside quarantine, claiming it consists of game consoles, exercise bikes and kicking a ball against a wall.
Godfrey has been a pivotal cog in Daniel Farke’s side this term, featuring in 21 games as a central defender - even playing through injury earlier this season.
The York-born defender is one of five players to graduate from the club’s academy, alongside Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis and Adam Idah.
Speaking about keeping occupied during this period of concern, Godfrey joked: “The Playstation 4 has been getting a battering.”
“I’ve been swapping between both [Call of Duty and Fifa]! When I get killed enough times in Call of Duty I move over to Fifa and try and win a few games on that.
“Me, Max [Aarons] and Todd [Cantwell] play. Todd is pretty decent at FIFA, though, so I try and stay away from him. Playstation 4 is supposed to be enjoyable, and all I’m doing is getting annoyed with myself.”
Footballers have been forced to vacate training grounds and complete their fitness work from home, but Godfrey explains how the camaraderie of the City squad has ensured they all keep in contact during this period.
“Yeah we do [keep in touch]. But yeah, we do stay in touch because obviously if you’re not playing Playstation you can just chat to each other,” he added.
“We’re a tight bunch, we do talk regularly. With Snapchat and PS4 we can stay in touch reasonably well, but obviously, yes, it’s different to being face-to-face. I do miss the changing room banter, when that’s taken away from you it’s tough,” he told 90min.com
“The club have given us equipment, so I’ve been putting that to use,” he revealed. “They’ve dropped us off exercise bikes and stuff like that. That’s what I’ve been doing, just keeping myself busy.
“But really, I’ve turned myself back into a kid again! I’ve been playing against the wall like I did when I was younger. It’s all I can do.”
