SC Paderborn have announced the permanent signing of Norwich City striker Dennis Srbeny for an undisclosed fee.

The German has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and is set to be named in the squad to face Bayern Leverkusen following the winter break.

Srbeny was plucked from the then third tier side back in January 2018 and Paderborn have continued their rise to the top-flight of German football under Steffen Baumgart.

The Paderborn boss has been keen to add variation to his attacking ranks, with Srbeny identified as an ideal option.

Paderborn sporting director Martin Przondziono said: "Dennis fits perfectly into our required profile of a tall, hard-working and accurate striker.

"He knows the conditions in Paderborn very well and is the dream player of our head coach Steffen Baumgart.

"We are very happy that this transfer worked out. I am sure that Dennis directly helps the team with his presence and his danger of scoring."

The 25-year-old has found game time at Carrow Road limited due to the goal-scoring exploits of Finnish international Teemu Pukki and now returns to the club City signed him from two years ago.

He has featured only eight times this season, playing a total of 39 minutes in the Premier League.

Srbeny appeared 43 times in total for City, with the majority of his playing time arriving in the back-end of 2017/18 season, when Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira was out of favour.

After his arrival, City boss Daniel Farke described Srbeny as possessing 'plenty of potential', something the German displayed in short bursts during his stint in Norfolk.

Srbeny opened his City account in April 2018, netting as City overcame Aston Villa 3-1.

Former England captain John Terry lined up in central defence for Villa that afternoon, but Srbeny peeled off the Chelsea legend to score.

An impressive outing against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup helped kick-start City's title-winning season last year, with the German netting an impressive brace as the Canaries beat then Premier League opponents.

His only other goal last season arrived at Hillsborough in the 4-0 victory back in November 2018.

Srbeny has been largely utilised as a dependable understudy, being used as an option from the bench should City require more attacking thrust late on within games.

His last league start for City came back in April 2018, when the Canaries drew 0-0 with Preston North End at Deepdale.

The German notched his only Premier League goal against Everton in November, bundling the ball home from close-range to secure a much-needed away win for Farke's men.

Paderborn sit bottom of the Bundesliga, just three points from the relegation playoff position. Srbeny will be tasked with improving the attacking output at the club, with Baumgart's side only netting on 20 occasion so far this season.
