Norwich City's Under 18s slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace in a closely contested game.
A solitary 66th minute strike for the home side was enough to seal the victory, although City could consider themselves unfortunate to lose such a tight tie.
The competitive encounter saw few clear cut chances in the opening stages, and the teams went in with the scores locked at 0-0 at half-time.
Palace’s breakthrough came when a long ball upfield eluded City defender Kyle McFadden and fell into the path of the hosts’ striker who put them 1-0 up.
Despite pushing hard to level the game, and two great performances from full-backs Harry Barker and Harry Toffolo, City weren’t able to claw back a goal.
Academy Manager Ricky Martin said afterwards: “We pushed for an equaliser but our finishing and final ball needed to be better to allow us the opportunity to score.
“It was a very disappointing goal to concede especially as the lads had worked hard and defended really well all game.
“It was good competitive game with lots of good play from both sides, although chances were limited.”
