The Canaries have confirmed that second-year Academy scholar Luke Daley, who has scored 13 goals this season at reserve and youth team level, has been rewarded with a two-year professional contract.

The 18-year-old striker from Northampton joins Damon Lathrope as the second Academy scholar to be offered a professional deal by manager Glenn Roeder.

“I'm very excited,” said Daley. “I'm grateful for the opportunity I've had, really excited now just to get on, get my head down and progress as much as I can.

“A few weeks ago I got the letter through the post. I opened it and I was very happy. I've signed the contract and it was a very exciting moment for me.”

Daley was on the bench for the first team home game against Stoke last month.

He said: “It was a bit of a surprise at first. I'd been training with the first team quite a bit running up to that and got told by the first team staff that I would be involved in the squad. I got to the ground later on and found my name was on the board and I was on the bench, so I was very excited.

“It was good experience and gave me a little taste of what I want to do.”
