Daniel Farke wants Norwich City fans to show his young guns some love as the Canaries’ target a Championship tonic against QPR.

City were mauled 3-1 by Sunderland at Carrow Road on Sunday but get a swift chance for redemption on Wednesday.

“They have to learn from setbacks and they will do,” said Farke.

“When the guys are there with a good working attitude and leave their heart on the pitch and give everything there won’t be any stress with me.

“If they don’t give their best, then there will be stress. In this moment you have to be there for the guys, and give them more self-confidence. That is what we have done for the past two days.

“We know it would be easier to have a more experienced guy like Timm Klose now. Or Ivo Pinto when he is fully fit. We have to trust the young lads and don’t judge them. Sunderland was in the Premier League last season with high expectations and we dominated them.

“Okay, we are responsible for this result and we will look not to make the same mistakes. We need an atmosphere of togetherness with our fans and we look forward to having that in the stadium and we will look to bring a good performance on the pitch. It is always about a reaction. We don’t have to be too nervous because 95pc of the game we played was good. I’m sure the players want to show a reaction. All I want is for them to be concentrated in the small situations.”

Farke is convinced his unproven backline will learn quickly.

“We all had this feeling it was totally unnecessary to lose the game,” he said. “If you look at the facts it is always about the result, not the idea of possession or philosophy or how it looks. It is not like synchro swimming, where you have to look beautiful and there is a style judge. No, it is all about the result. We have to keep in mind we have so many young lads on the pitch. Angus Gunn, it is his first senior games, Harrison Reed, the same. James Maddison is now getting starts for the first time. In addition to that players like Christoph (Zimmermann) and Marcel (Franke) are having their first appearances in England. James Husband, another young player who was not playing for the past year. We know all these guys will make some mistakes and that makes us sad but we trust in them, we work with them and we know they are full of potential.”
