Barnsley boss Colin Davey refused to be despondent about his side's 3-1 defeat by the Canaries and argued: “We didn't get the rub of the green.”

Davey said he felt there was a hint of offside about City's first goal, and a slice of good fortune about the second.

He said: “I don't know whether it was marginally offside, but Huckerby's come inside, it was his weaker foot, and he's hit it right in the top corner. You can't legislate for that.

“Then there was a bit of a ricochet in the middle of the park and it went straight to somebody in an offside position but it's come off one of our players, so it's not the rub of the green. They had it today, we didn't. We hit the crossbar, had one cleared off the line - that's football. Today the luck has gone against us.”

Davey added: “We got a goal just before half-time, which gave us a bit of positiveness going in. We came out for 10 minutes in the second half and had a right go.

“I can't fault them. They gave their all and they will do from now until the end of the season.

“All the players are doing well at the moment. We need to keep them on the boil and make sure they keep working and if they do that we'll be OK.

“It's not a disaster when we lose. We re-assess things again at five o'clock and we look forward to playing Sunderland next week.

“It's always disappointing when you concede three at home but it happens and we have to move on from it. We can't dwell on defeats and we can't dwell on losing goals. We have to keep the focus in the dressing room on what we have to do. The results will come.”
