Norwich City boss Peter Grant has invited former Dundee and Hearts boss Jim Duffy to Carrow Road amid speculation that the 47-year-old is about to join his backroom team.

Duffy is reportedly in talks with Grant with a view to taking on a coaching role with the Canaries, although a statement issued by the club last night did little to confirm or deny the rumours.

"Jim Duffy is a good friend of Peter Grant's," said a club spokesman. "He has been invited down to Norwich to talk with Peter about players and football in general.

"We do have a coaching vacancy at the moment and will be considering what to do about this in due course."

The vacancy was created just before Christmas when reserve-team boss Keith Webb left to join King's Lynn as their manager.

However, whether or not Grant plans a reshuffle before the end of the season is unclear.

Reserve team matters are currently being looked after by academy chief Ricky Martin, who was due to hold the post to the end of the season.

Grant inherited assistant manager Doug Livermore and first-team coach Martin Hunter when he took over from the axed Nigel Worthington in October.

Livemore has been assistant manager since 1999 when he returned to City after two previous spells, while Hunter was appointed first team coach at the end of June to replace the axed Steve Foley.

Glasgow-born Duffy played for Greenock Morton, Dundee and Patrick before returning to Dundee as player/ manager. He moved on to Hibs as manager and coached at Chelsea and Portsmouth before returning to manage Dundee. A year ago he joined the coaching staff at Hearts but lost his job, along with Graham Rix, in March.
