Norwich City duo Ben Godfrey and Max Aarons can rest up and prepare for the Premier League, as they are not heading to the Toulon Tournament in France with the England Under-20 squad.

Godfrey won two U20 caps in March and despite turning 21 in January is still within the age range for the prestigious youth tournament, which is between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 2001 - which both players fall into.

Yet despite playing a major role in winning the Championship title the Canaries defender is not joining up with Paul Simpson's squad for the tournament.

The U20s missed out on qualification for the U20 World Cup, which is currently being held in Poland, and with the England U21s heading to Italy next month for the European U21 Championship, it's the U20s who head to Toulon.

City academy duo Adam Idah and Simon Power are due to be in action at the tournament though, with the Republic of Ireland U21s heading to Toulon.

Right-back Aarons won seven U19 caps with England during a superb breakthrough season, being named EFL Young Player of the Season and being included in the Championship Team of the Season at the EFL Awards.

The U19s also missed out on qualification for the European U19 Championship in Armenia this summer, but Aarons isn't joining up with the U20 or U21 squad either.

While stepping into the U21 squad may have been a big step, particularly with Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to be first choice at right-back, in a squad which includes former Norwich stars Angus Gunn and James Maddison and is packed full of Premier League experience.

The U20 squad includes Derby right-back Jayden Bogle, who suffered Championship play-off final defeat to Aston Villa on Monday, and Chelsea loanee Reece James, who starred on loan during a relegation battle for Wigan.

The duo have been key components of City's promotion success and both have been linked with some of the biggest clubs in the country throughout the campaign.

From a Canaries point of view it does allow for both to rest up ahead of the club's return to the Premier League at least, with Aarons having made 50 appearances and Godfrey 39, for club and country in all competitions this season.
