The Lotus team principal and AirAsia founder has a personal wealth estimated at more than $230m and attempted to buy Premier League West Ham United - the team he supports - earlier this season.

Since the opportunity at Upton Park fell through, Fernandes has been a wanted man, but yesterday at the launch of Lotus' Hingham-built 2010 car, he did little to dampen fans' hopes he could help alleviate the club's £23m debts.

“Why not? I mean never say no. I've never been to Carrow Road and maybe Delia will invite me one day,” he said.

“I've received many emails, the colours are green and yellow (the same as next season's Lotus car). Maybe Norfolk will become my home for the rest of my life - who knows?

“Never rule it out, but it's not for me to choose. If people want me to be involved and it makes sense, then why not?

“But I certainly think, at the very minimum, Lotus and Norwich should be closely aligned. We should help each other wherever we can and I hope when we have time we'll bring the car to Carrow Road for one of the games and we'll be rooting for Norwich going forward.”

Fernandes' open invitation follows City chief executive David McNally and chairman Alan Bowkett stating at this month's annual general meeting they would be happy to speak to the 45-year-old about investing in League One's table toppers.
