Fiorentina announced last night that they had received an offer from the Canaries for Italy Under-21 striker Arturo Lupoli - but manager Glenn Roeder claimed it was news to him.

The former Arsenal and Derby forward spent last season on loan at another Italian club, Treviso.

“Fiorentina announces it has received an offer from English club Norwich City Football Club for the permanent transfer of striker Arturo Lupoli,” read a statement on the club's official website.

“Fiorentina would be willing to transfer the player on a temporary basis. The negotiations will continue in the coming days.”

But asked about the report after last night's friendly at Gorleston, Roeder looked bemused, saying only: “Who did he play for?”

The 21-year-old Lupoli is contracted to Fiorentina until 2012.

He was with Arsenal as a youngster, making one Premier League appearance. And he went on to enjoy a brief but impressive spell with Derby County before returning to his homeland.Lupoli has been linked with two other Italian clubs, Siena and Udinese, since the end of last season.
